Spread a Little Love

Valentine's Day: love it, or love to hate it? This day is at the top of the "most dreaded days of the year" list for many. Either you're single, or you're in that weird in between phase of a relationship and unsure of how to act today, or your significant other didn't quite do the right thing. This day often always fails to live up to the glory we associate with it.

Instead of being bogged down by the pressure of today: spread a little love. Maybe its not romantic love, but there are lots of other kinds of love to show. Get someone flowers just because. Write encouraging notes to people you love. Bring cupcakes into work. Do something you love to do today. It's not just about chocolate, unwanted teddy bears, overpriced roses, and overcrowded restaurants. Just spend today with the people you love -- whatever type of love that may be. Speak love in everything you do -- be extra kind, this day can be hard for others, and a little kindness goes a long way.

Last year, my roommates at university and I all made handmade valentines and left them all over our house to surprise each other. Some of us were single, in relationships, even engaged. It didn't matter. Our house was just filled with roommate love. Single or not, lonely or not, everyone has someone they love, or something they love to do. Be with that person or those people today. Do something that brings joy to you and the people around you.
